January events in Avoriaz
It’s a new year in Avoriaz and both the town and the slopes have emptied out after a hectic New Year. This is one of the best times to visit as the snow is almost always good and lift queues are at their shortest. There will be a few skiing events up the mountains, which are good to stop and watch as you cruise on down.
Burton Mystery Series
With a twist on the legendary Stash Banked. All shredders welcome! the Burton Stash is in the Les Lindarets sector of Avoriaz and can be reached by the six seater Prolays chairlift. Last weekend of January, dates and details.
Junior World Alpine Skiing Championships
This is the fourth biggest ski event in the world and it's being hosted in the Portes du Soleil with events in Morzine, Avoriaz, Les Gets and Chatel, dates and details.
February events in Avoriaz
February is school holidays time and the resort is full of families enjoying their Spring half term break. There will be lots of activities and events put on by the ski companies and the tourist office, so be sure to keep an eye on our events calendar.
Volcom Spot to Spot
Full weekend of incredible freestyle snowboarding through the resort for pros and amateurs with great après-ski and live music events. Dates and details
Snow carnival
During the February holidays, the Avoriaz tourist office organises a children's winter carnival with entertainment and shows for families. There are sledge races, carnival parades, sound and light shows, fireworks and concerts to enjoy and most of the events are free of charge. Every week during the holidays there is a weekly carnival parade where children can dress up in fancy dress and ride through the resort on procession floats. Dates and details
Valentine's Day
There will be no shortage of places to go to celebrate with your loved one, however be sure to book early if there's that certain spot you would like to go with your special someone.
March events in Avoriaz
March is always a busy month in terms of events including the Freeride World Tour 2 star qualifiers. We've highlighted a couple of our favourites below, but take a look at our events calendar for what else is on.
Rock the Pistes music festival
The best of French and international rock and pop music is featured in this week long event high up on the pistes of the Portes du Soleil ski area. And it's all included in the price of your lift pass! Dates and details.
Snowboxx music festival
Running at the same time as Rock the Pistes, Snowboxx music festival features an international line up playing on stages around Avoriaz every evening. A real treat for lovers of skiing and music! Dates and details.

Fête de la Musique
The Fête de la Musique is the celebration that takes place every summer solstice on 21st June in cities, towns and villages across France. More than a music festival, the Avoriaz Fête de la Musique is a free event that spills out from the bars and restaurants onto the streets and encompasses every type of music imaginable, from local amateur teen bands to professional classical musicians, from club DJ’s to traditional folk bands. Pass'Portes du Soleil MTB event
The Pass'Portes du Soleil event sets the start of the summer season - three days of mountain biking across the Portes du Soleil. The classic circuit is 80km long, it includes 7,000m of downhill and 1,000m of uphill. 15 lifts give you access to nine different resorts, with some great riding along the way ranging in altitude from 2,250m – 1,000m through both France and Switzerland. July events in Avoriaz
As the weather ramps up so do the number of events and you'll find the resort is buzzing with activity.
Spartan Trifecta weekend
The world's leading obstacle race company brings it's competition to the neighbouring resort of Morzine over one weekend, with races over 5km, 13km, 21km and 50km, dates and details.
Bastille Day
Celebrated across the whole of France with a bang...well, several in fact, fireworks always feature heavily. And the residents of Avoriaz celebrate this national holiday with as much enthusiasm as the rest of the country. Various activities are held across France on the 14th, in memory of the storming of the Bastille on the same date in 1789. Traditionally the fireworks display normally starts off between 22:00 to 23:00. Dates and details.
Tour de France
The Alps have played a large part in the race over the years with the gruelling mountain climbs providing some of the most exciting spectacles of the event. The route changes slightly each year, taking in different towns, villages and cols along the way. Even if the race doesn't pass near to where you are this summer you can guarantee that it will still be avidly watched in bars and cafés around the country with everyone joining in to cheer on the famous yellow jersey! August events in Avoriaz
Always a busy month in resort with a multitude of sporting events for the those fit enough, crazy enough, or courageous enough and if mountain running is not your thing, how about dancing? - keep an eye on our events calendar for updates.
Trail des Hauts Forts
Avoriaz mountain trail race held in August. It is an all natural trail runners race with a short (23km) and a long (43km) version of the Trail des Hauts Forts. The route takes you through three mountain passes around the Hauts Forts peaks and through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the Portes du Soleil area. Dates and details.
Avoriaz Dance Festival
In association with RACA Danse, Annecy and The Federation Francaise de Danse this fabulous dance event offers more than 130 hours of Cuban and Puerto Rican Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, West Coast Swing, Rock, Lindy Hop, Tapas, Zumba and many other dances. So whatever your level get your dancing shoes out! Dates and details.
September events in Avoriaz
A rather quieter month in Avoriaz as the summer tourists leave and a sense of calm returns to the area. There won't be too much going on although the lifts and bike parks will be open until the middle of the month. Check our events calendar to keep up to date with anything that might be happening.
Mont Blanc Rally
For petrol heads in the Alps the Mont Blanc Rally is one of the big events of the summer season. First held in 1947 it was originally organised as part of the Fête d’Evian and was known as the “Rally Paris-Evian”. Over the years the rally course and focus shifted and it became the “Rally Evian – Mont Blanc” and then in its tenth year, the “Rally Mont-Blanc Iseran”. It was not until 1961 that it finally became the “Rally Mont Blanc”. Dates and details.

The summer months are a distant memory, and in October the locals enjoy some autumnal bike riding and hiking before the first snow falls.

A very quiet month in terms of events, usually a time when everyone is taking a well earned break before December arrives and the opening of the winter season.

December is always a busy month, the Christmas and New Year brings a flurry of social and sporting events, so take a look at our events calendar for more details.
Christmas
The festive season in the snowy Alps is always magical and every year there is some sort of celebration in resort to mark the occasion. Christmas in Avoriaz officially starts at the beginning of December when the Christmas lights are switched on. The night is marked with vin chaud, hot chocolate and music. From then on you can enjoy Christmas concerts, festive markets and live music as the resort gears up for Christmas and New Year. Dates and details.
New Year's Eve
Come midnight the hoards of merry revellers head the centre of town for the big countdown – not an official event as such, more of a long-held tradition. On the stroke of midnight you are advised to duck as champagne corks and fireworks are unleashed in celebration! Likewise, planning ahead is advised if you have your heart set on ringing in the New Year in a particular bar or club – some of them are ticket-only, so enquire in advance to avoid disappointment!
