Avoriaz is perched high on a rocky promontory just above Morzine and Les Gets. Although Avoriaz itself is pedestrianised, the three resorts are regularly connected via public buses in both summer and winter.
Airport bus services to Avoriaz
In the winter, there is a direct bus service from Geneva bus station to Avoriaz, which runs on Saturdays. To reach the resort you need to take the Les Prodains cable car, which takes you up into Avoriaz without having to drive up the hill. You can buy tickets at the lift pass office at the bottom once you arrive. Otherwise, it takes around one hour from Geneva train station to the closest main town, Thonon-les-Bains (line 271) and then a further hour or so from Thonon to Avoriaz by bus (line Y91). The Y91 only stops at Avoriaz on Saturdays and Sundays in winter and on Saturdays only in summer.
For more information on the best transport options from the airport see our getting here guide.

Avoriaz local buses
Avoriaz is a car-free resort and instead offers horse-drawn sleighs, sleds and electric shuttles to move around. This means that you are not able to drive to your accommodation or around town. However, all apartments are ski-in/ski-out and the resort amenities are right on your doorstep.
Horse-drawn sleighs are a common sight on the streets and one of the highlights of visiting Avoriaz.
At night, you will see a fleet of shuttles zipping around the resort which look a little like minibuses on caterpillar tracks.
On arrival in Avoriaz, there are baggage sleds available at the entrance points to the resort, as well as at the base of each residence to help you manoeuvre your luggage to and from your apartment. They work like supermarket trolleys and require a €1 or €2 coin to release one which you get back when you return it to one of the return points.
The Balad'Aulps buses run along the Aulps valley, connecting Avoriaz, Morzine, Les Gets, Montriond, Essert Romand, St Jean d'Aulps, Le Biot and Le Jotty.
The Morzine, Les Gets and Saint-Jean d'Aulps village shuttles are free to use.
