Châtel is a traditional Alpine village situated at the bottom of some of the most popular, varied and beautiful ski slopes in the Portes du Soleil.

Rivalling Morzine in size and popularity, Châtel has a wealth of hotels, bars, restaurants and activities to choose from both during the winter season and the summer months.

Châtel is home to a number of popular music festivals during the summer and in August comes alive for the Fête de la Saint Laurent which is like a carnival celebrating the patron saint of the village. So, whether you’re visiting in sun or snow, Châtel won’t fail to give you a holiday to remember.

In the summer, Châtel remains a popular destination with mountain bikers, road bikers and also tourists just wanting to experience Alpine life. Easily accessible by lifts, it’s home to the famous Fantasticable zip wire which carries daredevils between two mountains at up to speeds of around 100km an hour. It also has a stunning lake, which is popular with people wanting to try water sports whilst visiting the region.

Directions

Sitting on the Swiss border, Châtel is around a 38km drive from Morzine, a route that is also popular with road bikers travelling around the Portes du Soleil region. You can reach it easily on the lift system. In winter, it houses thousands of skiers and boarders wanting to explore the region. As it’s easy to ski to from Avoriaz and Morzine, it’s also a popular stop-off destination for people looking for a bite to eat during a long day on the slopes.
